I am told by my item manager that when they update an item description that it doesn't flow through to the item description in the Bill of Materials. Is this true and are they doing something wrong? We are Nav 4.0 classic client users.

Yes, that's true. BOM component descriptions will not be updated when you update the item. Nothing like this is ever updated automatically in NAV (except, of course, renaming of primary key of records, which is not the case here).

You must customize table 27 to achieve what you need (or ask your partner who implemented NAV for you to do so).
